Melbourne Cup celebrations at Albany Bridge Club

We returned to Albany from Kendenup to help the bridge club celebrate Melbourne Cup day.  We played some bridge, watched the race, and had some delicious brought and shared lunch.

Some of the imaginative hats that turned up.  There was a competition for the best hat made from recycled materials.

This was a very creative use of cards and I thought this would be a very likely winner.

This celebrated The Cup using plastic drinking cups in an imaginative way.  This too was a favourite for me.

And this must be the most creative use of a man's underpants for headwear.

The winner of the men's competition.

This was judged the overall winner but I think the elderly lady who was asked to judge was unaware of the recycled element requirement and was judging the hat on beauty.

Our own feeble attempts at creative hat making - mine was made of a map of Albany and Andrew's hat was tea bags carton.

We had a most enjoyable day and were grateful for the warm welcome Albany extended to us, as they did 12 years ago as well.
