Broome

Arrived in Broome.  This is where half of Perth comes during the winter months - those who don't go to Bali.  It is a nice laid-back, tree lined town and boy, is it warm.  I would hate to be here for the summer.

We went to the Saturday markets at the Courthouse.  Full of arts and crafts and food stalls.

Face painting for kids.

Hair plaiting for adult hippies.

Aboriginal band playing.

Fabulous mango ice cream.

The mango stall at the market is constantly busy with long queues.  They make smoothies, ice cream with other fruits as well as mangoes but it is the mango products which are in most constant demand.

These are a couple of 1kg bags of frozen mango flesh.  We bought four bags of 500gm packs in Carnarvon which are much more manageable but I could not resist the 1 kg packs - all I could get - which now occupy a large portion of the freezer.  We both adore mangoes so they will not be wasted.

Cable Beach.

One of the popular activities on fabled Cable Beach is to go for a camel ride at sunset.  We did not wait to see the sunset as we are camping on the other side of town but captured some of the camels and their riders as they were getting ready for the sunset rides.

We tried riding a camel in Morocco and it is not an experience I am anxious to repeat.  Mind you, on the flat surface of the beach it would be fine.  In the sand dunes of Morocco it was also fine going on the flat surface and going uphill too was OK, but going downhill on a camel is a scary experience.  You feel as if you would topple forwards over the head of this tall creature.

Cars getting ready for viewing the sunset.

Sunset at Roebuck Bay where our Discovery Caravan Park is.  We have seen some fabulous sunsets so we are not chasing after them as much these days.

This is another view from the caravan park looking over the water on the bay.  It is a very nicely laid out but extremely busy park.

Having a little leisurely rest in the shade after a  stroll around the park.

These are the grassy seats that have been erected for watching the staircase to the moon that occurs full moon.

Having our last coffee in Broome on the terrace of one of the numerous cafes.

As the title explains, this is an outdoor Broome cinema.  Claims to be the earliest outdoor cinema in Australia.
