Adelaide - only for a brief moment

Sadly, our visit to Adelaide which was to last about a week was over in the blink of an eye.  We were visiting old friends, Kent and Cecilia.  We spent a very enjoyable evening with them, only to wake up to the news that hitherto almost virus free South Australia suddenly had 17 new cases all in Adelaide.

This was in the morning as we found out the bad news and decided it was sensible to leave town before the border was closed and we would be trapped in SA without being able to enter either Victoria or NSW to reach home.  Much as we wanted to enjoy their hospitality, we want to go home now.  So we set off, deciding on the longer NSW option which was just as well as on the way to Broken Hill we heard on the news that Premier Andrews had closed the border with SA.  Premier Berejiklian, that much wiser Premier, said that we need to live with this virus and states can't keep closing and reopening borders.  So, I am now writing this in Broken Hill which we reached after a six hour drive.  But we are now in NSW and the road home is open to us.  The WA border had been open just over 24 hours before it was closed again.  I think about 600 people managed to get in during that time frame.  A plane load of people coming in to Perth from Adelaide heard the unwelcome news mid-flight that upon arrival they had to isolate in quarantine for a fortnight.

So, all in all, we were once again, both lucky and unlucky but compared to many others, much more lucky than not.  So we will now start winding our way home while giving our house sitters some grace before returning and reclaiming the house :-)
