Cooktown

For many people, coming to Cooktown is the end of their Qld trip.  It is fairly near the top of the Qld map.  Here is a photo looking down from Mt Cook

and the vista of the beach wrapping around.

Walking around the Saturday market we came across this baby joey whose mother has died and is being raised by a human.  About six months old we gather.

It is the celebration of Captain Cook's landing here at Cooktown so there is an annual weekend of festivities and a big parade through the town.  Here are some of the floats.

The re-enactment of Cook's landing at Cooktown in 1770 is an annual celebration.  Here are some pics of it.

James Cook Museum which was originally the Lady Of Mercy Convent Boarding School.

The Jehovah's Witness House which was the former hospital.  Both lovely old heritage buildings.
